MEHP Out-of-Network Coverage

Humana will become the Medicare Advantage plan provider for the TRS Medicare Eligible Health Plan (MEHP) on Jan. 1. The contract negotiations between Humana and Graves Gilbert Clinic are ongoing, but retirees should still be able to use the clinic regardless of the contract status. This is because your plan has out-of-network benefits with Humana and allows you to go to any provider who accepts Medicare and agrees to bill Humana.

In negotiations such as this one, as long as a doctors’ group or other provider accepts Medicare and agrees to bill Humana, MEHP participants can continue to see that provider on an out-of-network basis at the same cost to the member even if the contract issue continues.

TRS provides fliers on the MEHP website (https://trs.ky.gov/retired-members/age-65-over/) for retirees to print out and give to their doctors to assist with out-of-network coverage and visits. For visits as of Jan. 1, the Humana flier is at https://trs.ky.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Member-to-Provider-fly.pdf.
